The two Daves should offer the job to their preferred candidates in the order of preference, and as soon as an acceptance is received, make a public announcement that walrus will not be offered a new deal.
I don't think it's very wise to wait until the end of the season as planned.

Why do you need to constantly defend the club?
We were abysmal today, our highly paid manager is constantly making poor decisions. Their is no direction at the club, the football is awful, and he has the audacity to sarcastically laugh at our fans.
The bloke is a prick and the sooner he's out of our club the better.
